MemoPryl Ingredients: 8 Names to Check on the Label

Quick answer

MemoPryl's brand graphics name six ingredients: phosphatidylserine, ginkgo biloba leaf, N-acetyl L-carnitine HCl, brahmi, St. John's wort and L-glutamine. The eBay seller lists two more, alpha-GPC and huperzine A. No amounts are published. Check each name on your own bottle, and look first for the two that affect medicines.

Key facts

Key facts: what is in MemoPryl, and what is missing?

  • Six names come from the brand graphics. Two more, alpha-GPC and huperzine A, come only from the eBay seller's item list.
  • Which label version holds alpha-GPC and huperzine A is not known.
  • Amount per serving, serving size, other ingredients and label warnings are not published.
  • Two names change how medicines work: St. John's wort and huperzine A.
  • Brand badges say vegetarian, gluten free and dairy free, but none names a certifier or a test.

The list

What are the eight names on the MemoPryl ingredient list?

Work down the list and tick each name off against your own bottle. The research notes describe each ingredient alone, not MemoPryl.

  1. Phosphatidylserine

A fat-like part of brain cell membranes. Studied at 80-500 mg a day with slight effects (ADDF, Phosphatidylserine). It may lower blood pressure and may raise bleeding risk.

  2. Ginkgo biloba leaf

The best-known memory herb. It did not reduce dementia risk in three large studies (NCCIH, Ginkgo). It can raise bleeding risk with warfarin.

  3. N-Acetyl L-Carnitine HCl

A form of carnitine, which cells use to turn fat into energy. Trials used 1-3 g a day, and gains faded by one year (NIH ODS, Carnitine).

  4. St. John's wort

An herb studied for mild to moderate depression, not memory (NCCIH, St. John's wort). It can weaken many medicines. This is the name to check first.

  5. Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri)

An Ayurvedic herb. Many small trials found at least one small gain, usually at 300 mg a day for about 3 months (ADDF, Bacopa).

  6. L-glutamine

A common amino acid, covered in the sources for cancer care and surgery, not memory (MSKCC, Glutamine). It is not the same as glutamate.

  7. Alpha-GPC (seller list only)

A choline source. No studies in healthy people; dementia trials used 1,200 mg a day (ADDF, Alpha-GPC).

  8. Huperzine A (seller list only)

A plant compound that acts much like prescription Alzheimer's drugs. Small dementia trials used 200-400 mcg a day (ADDF, Huperzine A).

Where does each ingredient name come from?

Two places: the brand graphic called Inside MemoPryl, and the item specifics on the live eBay listing. They do not match.

Two label versions exist, and the placing of those last two names cannot be settled from the images. Treat them as possibly present until you read your own panel.

Amounts

What amounts does MemoPryl list for each ingredient?

Not published. No Supplement Facts panel for either version has been seen, so every amount line reads "not published". We will not guess.

Research doses show why that gap matters. Bacopa trials used about 300 mg a day. Acetyl-L-carnitine trials used 1 to 3 grams. Eight ingredients at those levels would not fit in a capsule or two. Some are probably far lower, but only the printed panel can settle it.

A blend can hide amounts

A proprietary blend lists one total weight for several ingredients. A blend total alone cannot be compared with research doses. We do not know which style MemoPryl uses.

Medicine check

Which MemoPryl ingredients need a medicine check?

Two of the eight. St. John's wort can weaken birth control pills, warfarin, digoxin, some statins and some seizure, HIV, transplant and cancer drugs. With some antidepressants it can cause serotonin side effects (NCCIH, St. John's wort).

Huperzine A, if present, may add to the side effects of donepezil-type drugs, might lower heart rate and may worsen some epilepsy (ADDF, Huperzine A).

Ginkgo and phosphatidylserine add bleeding cautions, and carnitine adds a seizure caution. Bring the bottle to your pharmacist, keep taking any prescribed medicine, and never stop or change a dose on your own.

Diet

What about gluten, dairy and vegetarian claims?

Brand badges say vegetarian, gluten free and dairy free. No certifier, test method or lab stands behind any of them in our materials. The other-ingredients line, which would show the capsule shell and fillers, is not published either.

If you have an allergy or follow a strict diet, read the other-ingredients line on your own bottle before the first capsule. A vegetarian badge only holds if the shell is plant-based, and nothing we have shows that.

Your bottle

How do you check the ingredient list on your own bottle?

Do this before you open the seal, with the bottle in your hand.

  1. Find the serving size

Write down how many capsules make one serving. Your label sets your amount, not a website.

  2. Read the amounts

Look for milligrams or micrograms beside each name. A blend total hides each share.

  3. Circle the two flags

Look for St. John's wort and huperzine A. If either is there, call a pharmacist before the first capsule.

  4. Compare the names

A panel built on BCAAs, rhodiola, L-theanine or ginseng belongs to a different MemoPryl formula.

  5. Photograph the panel

Keep the photo with your medicine list. If something looks wrong, report it on the eBay order within 30 days.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What ingredients are in MemoPryl?

The brand graphics name phosphatidylserine, ginkgo biloba leaf, N-acetyl L-carnitine HCl and L-glutamine, plus brahmi (Bacopa monnieri) and St. John's wort. The eBay seller also lists alpha-GPC and huperzine A. No amounts are published.

Does MemoPryl contain St. John's wort?

Yes, it is one of the six names on the brand graphics. It can weaken birth control, warfarin and many other medicines (NCCIH, St. John's wort). No image we have shows a label warning about it.

Is huperzine A really in MemoPryl?

We cannot confirm it. Only the eBay seller lists it, and the brand graphics do not. Which label version holds it is unknown. Read your own panel and ask a pharmacist if you take heart or dementia medicine.

What is the full MemoPryl ingredients list with amounts?

No list with amounts exists in our materials. Neither version has a Supplement Facts panel on any image we have. The names are known, the milligrams are not published.

Is MemoPryl vegetarian, gluten free or dairy free?

Brand badges say so, but no certifier or test is named, and the capsule material is not shown. With an allergy or a strict diet, read the other-ingredients line on your bottle first.

Does MemoPryl contain caffeine?

Caffeine is not among the eight named ingredients. The other-ingredients line has not been shown, so we cannot rule out anything there. If you avoid stimulants, read the full list on your bottle.

Bottom line

Our view

Eight names, no amounts. That sums up the MemoPryl label as we can see it. The names are open, which is good. The numbers behind them are missing, which makes every research comparison a guess.

The most useful thing you can do is read the back panel of your own bottle. Find the serving size, find the amounts, and look for the two flags. If you take any prescription, put the bottle in front of a pharmacist before you start.

If the panel lists other herbs than the ones above, you may have a different product, and our notes do not apply to it.

Plain status

MemoPryl is a dietary supplement. It is not FDA approved, and no supplement is. It is not a treatment for memory loss, dementia or any disease. It contains St. John's wort, which can weaken many medicines. Ask your doctor or pharmacist before you start, and keep taking any prescribed medicine.
